The action

The aim of this project is to equip 20 children with special needs and difficulties in sensory integration with a bag containing sensory objects that can be used in the home environment by their caregivers in the form of a structured therapy. Problems in sensorial integration are very frequent in diagnoses such as: Cerebral palsy, Autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, various genetic syndromes.

Part of the project will also be a sensorial evaluation which will be carried out by the center’s therapists to understand the difficulties in the sensorial integration of children at the beginning of the project and training for parents on how to develop the therapy. If these children will be exposed to the stimuli provided by the objects found in the sensorial bag, they will find it easier to cope with the emotional outbursts they may have, find it easier to concentrate and be less isolated if they do not have access to any other therapy.

The project will contribute to reducing the isolation of children with special needs who live in the most rural and isolated areas in the area of Tirana and Durrës for a period of 1 year. It will be an innovative idea in their rehabilitation which is very widespread in European countries but very little known in our country. Giving their guardians the opportunity to engage in the rehabilitation of their children and spend quality time with their children would be another goal of this project.

Tek Ura’s physiotherapists propose that 20 children be equipped with a sensorial bag each and a sensorial assessment be carried out at home/clinic.
